ALL WHAT JAZZ!? |
|||
|
The programme was first presented at The Chapter House, St Mary’s
Church Yatton in April 2007 as part of Yatton Music Society’s Festival. The
following quotes were received. |
|||
|
“For the non-jazzer or occasional jazz listener this is the ideal way to be drawn into the jazz world. Dave James takes his audience in stages through the
origins of jazz and its evolution up to the present day with explanations
followed by musical examples led by Dave on his saxophone, ably assisted by
his band colleagues.
A wonderful
experience.' Stan Wright – Chair Yatton Music Society |
“Perhaps jazz
has a reputation for taking itself a little too seriously & those who
enjoy it as belonging to an exclusive club. Jazz for non jazzers
dispelled all that. It was interesting without being too technical.
Informative and entertaining, and all the musicians were excellent. If you were a jazzer or a non jazzer, it was
all highly enjoyable and great fun. A super introduction for those who had
found jazz to be a bit of a mystery.” Frances Osborne

“I did enjoy
it. It made me want to know more and listen to
different varieties of jazz. Learning about the construction of a piece was
interesting and gave me an inkling of how jazz musicians start to improvise; a
seemingly impossible skill! “ Dr Jackie Gumb – Thornbury. |
Approachable in
so many ways without being patronizing. A good feel to the evening. It was
cool. - Libby Cooper – 6th
form student, Nailsea |
"The evening was a structured but
informal look at jazz …… Dave unlocked some of the mystery of jazz and with a
combination of visual aids, early John Zinn - Nailsea |
